Les Cabannes – Cordes – Vindrac Circular Walk

This delightful circular walk begins in the village of Les Cabannes, set at the foot of Cordes-sur-Ciel. From the start, the route climbs gradually away from the village, offering ever-widening views as it heads up towards the Abbey at Cordes.

From the Abbey, the path descends gently towards St Jean, before turning onto a smaller trail that climbs again, passing a pretty stone chapel tucked into the hillside. The route then follows a quiet ridge road, where panoramic views stretch across the Tarn countryside. The half way point is where we turn from this road (ETA 11:00).

A steady track leads down into the valley, opening up a fine view of Cordes-sur-Ciel perched dramatically on its hill. Reaching the village of Vindrac (ETA 12:00) we meet walkers taking the shorter option (beside the church where there is parking for 4 or 5 cars) before all follow the track beside the river Cérou. A picturesque stone bridge provides a perfect crossing point, leading us back into Les Cabannes to complete this circuit.

Cette ravissante balade circulaire commence dans le village des Cabannes, situé au pied de Cordes-sur-Ciel.Dès le départ, l’itinéraire monte progressivement en s’éloignant du village, offrant des vues toujours plus larges en montant vers l’abbaye de Cordes.

Depuis l’abbaye,le chemin descend doucement vers St Jean, avant de bifurquer sur un sentier plus petit qui monte à nouveau, en passant devant une jolie chapelle en pierre nichée à flanc de coteau. L’itinéraire suit ensuite une route de crête tranquille, d’où des vues panoramiques s’étendent sur la campagne tarnaise. Le point à mi-chemin est l’endroit où nous tournons à partir de cette route (ETA 11:00).

Une piste régulière descend dans la vallée, ouvrant une belle vue sur Cordes-sur-Ciel perchée de manière spectaculaire sur sa colline. En arrivant au village de Vindrac (ETA 12h00), nous rencontrons des randonneurs prenant l’option la plus courte (à côté de l’église où il y a un parking pour 4 ou 5 voitures) avant de tous suivre la piste le long de la rivière Cérou. Un pont de pierre pittoresque constitue un point de passage parfait, nous ramenant aux Cabannes pour compléter ce circuit. 

Départ à 9h30 sur la place des Cabannes.

Lunch will be at La Maison, just down from the starting point in Les Cabannes. Parking on the road side in Les Cabannes.

Please note that the restaurant uses all fresh local ingredients, and responds to what its suppliers offer week to week, therefore the menu below is an example of what we might be offered. They asked if we could specify any particular dislikes in the vegetable line. They will be happy to cater for gluten free needs.
